The highway: you know, that striped concrete abomination between roadkill and chugged beer bottles, leading from the middle of nowhere to everywhere. Well, The Cooters are on it. They're on it more than other bands because they're from Mississippi, where rock and roll begins and ends.

They're NOT from California, not New York City, not even Nashville,
but from MISSISSIPPI, where you have to drive to make ends meet.
These boys are used to drivin' long hours and workin real hard
to get their music to the people.
The Cooters run the gamut of rock and roll styles; playing everything from punk to metal, making pit stops at all points in between.

They've got your
standard rock trio format:
Raw on guitars and vocals, Neuter on bass and vocals, & Judas on drums and vocals, but there's not
a damn thing else
standard about 'em
.

The Cooters make music
like it's meant to be heard:
LOUD and PROUD
with blood and sweat to burn.

They've been tearin' up the South nearly ten years now, letting the musical fads come and go, while stickin' to their metal guns and holdin' fast to their punk roots. They've got legions of fans to show for it and they're always up for makin' new ones. The Cooters will be comin' to see you real soon...

A call to arms...
The Cooters
have returned again with fist-pumping,
punk rock fury and
heavy metal riffs
that are guaranteed
to whip any real
rock and roll shit-kickers
into a frenzy.
Since our unholy conception
in 1993, we have withstood incarcerations, controversy, carpetbaggers, boybands,
pop-punk, rap metal,
and all the drama and trends that would have destroyed a lesser band.

When it comes to playing, we take our cues from bad-asses like Motorhead, Dead Kennedys, Black Sabbath, Misfits, Judas Priest, Ramones, Iron Maiden, Discharge, MC5, and the Stooges, expanding them to intergalactic proportions, and back again to the roots of all rock: Mississippi. We play both kinds of rock: punk and metal.

So ladies, bring the leather,
and fellas, bring the booze
'cause we're gonna shake your soul
with some high-velocity, rock and fuckin roll!

Any time. Any where. Any show...
The Cooters can hold our own with the biggest bands on the planet, or rock the night away at a small town DIY show. In years past we have played bars, clubs, theaters, festivals, community centers, house parties, parks, backyards, trailers, offices, street corners, and even some god-forsaken honky tonks. We've played with a wide variety of bands, everyone from Imperial Leather to Hellshock to From Ashes Rise to Total Chaos to Destroy to Lost Goat to Nashville Pussy to ten years worth of underground bands that we're sure you've never heard of. We're just about embarassed to say it, but we've even played with some crap-ass, Top 40 bands like Bad Company, Seven Mary Three, and Dishwalla, too... but we lived to tell about it... The bottom line is this: The Cooters will play your show and rock your scene!!! Guaranteed!!! Contact The Cooters and make it happen.

The Cooters recently completed two new albums:
"Punk Metal" recorded between 2001 and 2003 by Tom Queyja at The Lip in Oxford, Mississippi, and album four, "Chaos or Bust!" recorded in six days in Fall of 2004 at Easley Studios in Memphis by Kevin Cubbins. Profane Existence Records released "Punk Metal" in June of 2005 and "Chaos or Bust" in November 2005!

Not just a concept...
The Cooters' mascot is the cooter (fresh-water turtle) and the scarecrow is our talisman. Together the cooter and the scarecrow form an unstopable force capable of uniting the universe or destroying it all. Immortal and unstoppable, they want you to join The Cooters army!

The artwork...
All artwork is concieved by
Newt Rayburn. Newt produces most of the artwork himself, but he sometimes collaborates with other artists to visualize Cooters themes. Whenever venues allow, the Cooters show slide projections and original 8mm movies during performances. Recently, Newt collborated with Matt Gillentine to produce an award-winning video for "The Gooch." Newt also collaborated with filmmaker Bryan Cage on a video for "Life Like."

Collaborations...
The Cooters will forever be a punk metal trio. However, we love to do side-project collaborations with those rare individuals who are bold enough to create new music with us.

We occasionally play shows with longtime friend and producer Tom Queyja (aka Tomas Chaos) on lead vocals. If you have come to know the Cooters as the band who sings, "Woo Lord!" then you will want to see Tom sing with The Cooters. Most folks who know Tom recognize him as one of brightest, most talented musicians and engineers around. He has played guitar and sang in a variety of rock fusion bands over the years including New Madrid Click, Wobitty, Dead Fish, Stoneface, and the Backwoods Mississippi Anarchy Orchestra.

Catching Tom Queyja with The Cooters is sometimes a rare feat. Rarely do we book shows with Tom in advance, but you never know when he will drop into a Cooters show to sing "Woo Lord!" or "Immigrant Song!" The best way to find out when Tom will be with The Cooters is to join The Cooters Convoy.

In years past The Cooters have also collaborated with
Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise),
Max Hipp (Kincain, Morphist),
Tyler Keith (The Neckbones, The Preacher's Kids),
Jeff Allen (Plaid Etude),
and the
Reverend Eloy Alfaro.
