The Cooters voted "Best Band of Oxford" in "The Best of Oxford 2006" poll
posted on June 12, 2006

Wow! Amazing! Unbelievable! The fine music fans of Oxford, Mississippi have voted THE COOTERS Oxford's Best Band in The Oxford Eagle newspapers annual Best of Oxford 2006 poll! Thats no small accomplishment for any band as Oxford is absolutely filled with many great bands and musicians of all genres, including a few major label artists. When I heard the news, I actually had to choke back a few tears, cause its no small feat for a rowdy punk metal band like The Cooters to be voted this honor. We started out in this town nearly 14 years ago and for most of the 1990s, we were the single handedly the most hated band around, and we got very little support. Somehow we never gave in, never changed our sound, and always took it as a challenge. I still dont think the establishment of Oxford gets it or thinks much of us, and judging by the fact that we were the only winner in the Best of Oxford magazine that did not get an article, photo or an ad, The Oxford Eagle doesnt think much of us either. They sure didnt do that to the soul/rhythm&blues sensation WILEY AND THE CHECKMATES when they won last year!

The Cooters would like to thank our fans, the true music warriors of Oxford who continue to believe in us and support us and to everyone who voted for us in the poll. The battle for change in Oxford is just beginning! We'll never rest on our laurels and dont let the bastards grind you down either!

The Cooters have to thank PROFANE EXISTENCE RECORDS for believing in us like nobody else! www.myspace.com/profaneexistence In the last year, Profane Existence has released two full length Cooters records ("Punk Metal" and "Chaos or Bust") and a 7" record (Bustin Loose) and they put us on an incredible Mid-west Tour with Sweden's punk legends IMPERIAL LEATHER www.myspace.com/soapmeup. We are very honored to be associated with Profane Existence and will continue to make them proud. If you dont have copy of our records yet, order yours today!!!

The Cooters want to thank Tom Queyja (aka Tomas Chaos) and Max Hipp (aka Kin Cooter) who have recently teamed up with us again to form MEGACOOTER, The Cooters five-piece alter ego www.myspace.com/megacooter. Weve played two amazing shows this year (which we are sure contributed to this award). Thanks Tomas & Kin, you guys deserve this honor too! Expect to see more Megacooter action soon!

We also have to thank our parents & families who have stood by us for many, many years always believing that our day would come. Thanks Moms, Dads, brothers, and sisters!!

To celebrate this award and to give something back to our community, The Cooters will be throwing a FREE CONCERT on June 24, 2006 at The Longshot on the Oxford, Mississippi Square. www.myspace.com/thelongshotbar We want all of our friends and families from all around to come rock out with us as we will be filming and multi-tracking this show for a DVD release later this year. Memphis, Tupelo, Water Valley, Oxford, North Mississippi.. we want you there!!! This is a concert for the ages and we want every rocker in the area to come out get ornery, Cooters style!!!

The Cooters may be the best band of Oxford today, but tomorrow, we want the world!

The Cooters "Chaos or Bust"
new compact disc is out now!
Released by Profane Existence Records on January 1, 2006

Fresh on the heels of their much more serious epic "Punk Metal," THE COOTERS unleash the animal inside with this digital party on a disc called "Chaos or Bust." The first six songs are 100% COOTERS style punk / crust / metal anthems about fucking shit up in the streets, American nationalistic lunacy, personal relationships nightmares, and late-night misadventures. Then are a series of COOTERfied covers of MOTORHEAD, MISFITS and DISCHARGE. The title track Chaos or Bust caps off this immense release, based on the chaos theory or "butterfly effect," where one tiny event can trigger off the
most powerful of events (such as Hurricane Katrina, which just recently devestated much of THE COOTERS home state of Mississippi. Chaos or Bust was recorded at the famous Easley-McCain Studio in Memphis, TN (Sonic Youth, White Stripes, Iggy Pop, John Spencer, Loretta Lynn, Guided By Voices, etc.), comes with incredible full-color packaging, and is enhanced with a music video for their song Life Like. THE COOTERS will be playing six Midwest dates with the Swedish punk band IMPERIAL LEATHER during the New Year's week.
