The Cooters unleash Punk Metal at Longshot Friday

This Friday, the ruckus starts at the Longshot at 10 p.m.

Oxford's reigning kings of punk, The Cooters, will hold a CD release party for their third album: Punk Metal.

The Cooters are one of Oxford's longest running musical acts, formed in 1993 by Newt "Neuter Cooter" Rayburn, Gentry "Raw Cooter" Webb, and Mikey "Judas Cooter" Namorato.

Fusing heavy metal, punk and hard rock, The Cooters have produced a sound unlike anything you have heard on the local music scene.

How can you describe their brand of music to the uninitiated?  With three words: pure sonic bombasity.

Punk Metal marks the end of a long, three-year journey of songwriting, jamming, and fine tuning for The Cooters, culminating into a pure "do-it-yourself" Oxford album.  Recorded on a shoestring budget at The Lip by Tom Queyja, Punk Metal shows The Cooters enlisting the help of fellow Oxford musicians Max Hipp (guitar, backing vocals), Augie Joachim (bowed upright bass) and Tom Queyja (vocals).

Released on Profane Existence Records, Punk Metal is a hard-hitting piece of work that will make you get out of your seat and roll cars.  The album features stinging vocals, wailing guitars and pounding drum work that show The Cooters' range and originality.

The Cooters are all about taking rock and roll and shoving it back in your face.  They are quick to point out that they are not a jam band (whatever that is), and they are ready to show you why on Friday night at the Longshot.

After an electrifying performance at this spring's Double Decker Festival, The Cooters are guaranteed to be one of the most high-voltage, unbridled shows you have seen in a while.

The Cooters will have CDs on-sale for $10, as well as t-shirts, buttons, and stickers.
