The Cooters were presented with an 2004 Oxford Film Festival award on October 28th for their entry "Work for The Gooch." The belated "Princess Hoka" award was presented to Cooters drummer Mike Namorato by Yoknapatawpha Arts Council president Elaine Abadie at the Longshot.
"We've known since the event that The Cooters won "Best Music Video" award, but through various miscommunications with our co-directors there was some confusion," said Elaine Abadie. "I apologize for that."
The video was shot and directed live in Tupelo, Mississippi at the now defunct Court Street Lounge in February, 2004 by filmaker Matt Gillentine. The Lounge went out of business shortly after the video was shot.
"The Court Street Lounge was one of our favorite places to play," explained Cooters bassist Newt Rayburn. "It's too bad its not around anymore, but this video stands as a testament to the awesome punk-metal scene that erupted in Tupelo in that lounge."
The Cooters are looking into releasing the video in early 2005 along with their new album "Chaos or Bust" in an enhanced CD format.
"I want to thank and congratulate Matt Gillentine, Gentry Webb, Mike Namorato, and all our friends and fans in Tueplo, Mississippi for making this video possible," said Newt "and the Oxford Film Festival, too! Thanks so much!"
